Snap Preview: Sold-Out Club Estes Crowd Awaits No. 12 BYU
Note: This is a guest-written article from Zach Boyd, who covers Utah State Olympic sports for The Aggship.
The No. 12 team in the country is in Logan tonight (7 p.m. MT) for the 59th all-time meeting between BYU (10-1) and No. 38 Utah State (7-3). This is BYU's first trip north to play the Aggies since 2011.
With what should be an electric, sold-out Club Estes crowd, the Aggies will look to spring an upset and nab their first win over the Cougars since 2010 (@BYU, 3-2) – falling in Provo last season, 0-3. For those unable to attend, the game will be broadcast via the Mountain West Network and at UtahStateAggies.com.
USU must put together a complete game to emerge victorious against the red-hot Cougar offense and stout defense. BYU is ninth nationally in blocks per set; 10th in opponent hitting percentage; and 39th in hitting percentage, entering this match having claimed big wins over No. 5 Pitt (3-1); Utah (3-1) and Utah Valley (3-0) while falling just once, at No. 13 Washington State (1-3). The Aggies enter having swept Northern Iowa and Utah Valley on the road in their last two games, bouncing back from a straight-sets loss at TCU.
Tonight's key matchup pits Utah State' leading blocker, Kennedi Boyd, against BYU's leader in kills, Erin Livingston. With a three-game winning streak on the line for both squads, expect plenty of drama tonight for the marquee bout in Club Estes.
